Here’s what people say about Storyform workshops—

“The Story Form Science Workshop is excellent and Holly's enthusiasm is contagious. The Story form has been created thoughtfully, where Holly breaks down contents into digestible pieces. This helped me focus on the right questions to communicate my work clearly without unnecessary tangents. Getting feedback was extremely useful in organizing the flow of my presentation.”

- Divya Sinha, Ph.D, Assistant Scientist, Gamm Lab @ Waisman Center

“Just finished two presentations at a conference.  I didn’t use a podium and got laughs and questions after both.  Also, a former lab mate told me I had the best presentations of the day!!  Can’t thank you enough for your help!”

Kristan Reed, Assistant professor, Northeast Agribusiness and Feed Alliance Partners Sesquicentennial Fellow in Dairy Cattle Biology, Department of Animal Science, Cornell University

“I would highly recommend the workshop to anyone struggling to tell a genuinely complex story in a short amount of time. I was constantly surprised by how many layers of wisdom are packed into the Storyform process."

Sam Hummel, Researcher & Communicator, Monetary Reform, Global Goals Quest

“The story telling for science course is mind-blowing. Holly and Adam gave us a lot of helpful advice on making scientific presentations more engaging. They also offered us real-life opportunities (e.g., thesis talk competition, science café) to practice the techniques we learned. I would highly recommend it!”

Dr. Xinyue Peng, Operations Research Science, Amazon

“I wanted to reach out and tell you how much I enjoyed and more importantly learned from your session yesterday.  As a dyed in the wool analytical, I LOVE my details (and think others should too!) and now feel that I have license to leave some of that info back in the folder when I tell a story.  You have great material that will really open doors for science being compelling and accessible to all.”

Laurel Sukup, NR Program Director, Department of Natural Resources

“I cannot recommend Story Form Science enough! Going through the process makes you focus on what you really want to say and why it matters. I started with a general science concept and finished with an engaging story that my non-science audience can connect to!”

 — Julie DePauw, Program Coordinator, Agriculture Water Stewardship, Lake Winnipeg Foundation.

StoryForm science provided our researcher interns with great insights for their storytelling. Several interns came me to after the class and mentioned how valuble they found the insights.  This is one of our best ranked trainings ever among the interns.

Matt Bigman, Project Manager, Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation

“I just gave my talk at the Clean Lakes Alliance breakfast (175 people attending!) and I NAILED it.  This is the project I was working on at your workshop.  Sooooo much better than the one I gave in 2014.  Got so much good feedback and happy people and it was so fun!!!!”

Katherine (Trina) McMahon, Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor, Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Bacteriology, Co-Faculty Director, Delta Program, University of Wisconsin - Madison

What workshop participants say. . .

This workshop was most beneficial in informing how I communicate my work (or any scientific work) to the general public. An approach that I found most relevant included story form in general (specifically, posing an explicit question and slowly building to its answer).

The workshop was a very friendly and safe environment from the perspective of being able to talk freely and not being put on the spot.

I really liked the story template to lay out my pieces of information, rearrange, etc.  I would love a blank copy to use in the future!!

I loved the template and being able to move things around within the template.

I personally liked the examples used to describe the process.  I also appreciated Holly’s enthusiasm about storytelling and how feedback was given.

I liked the little icons.  It helps me to think about how the technical stuff can be simplified into something simple and visual.

It was really helpful for us to tell our own research story.  Getting to practice with feedback from Holly and peers was very useful.

Wonderful job. . . Thanks so much for sharing your method.  Very helpful to teach the effect-driven results and developing with the end outcome in mind.
